Student Council

The Student Council Organization consists of an Executive Board of students who are elected by a majority of the students attending St. Joseph School. It serves as an opportunity for students to come together to plan ways to continue to make our school a great place to be. The students can accomplish this by planning school cmmunity service projects, school fundraisers, school wide special events and other fun activities.
Student Council, also helps students develop leadership skills, interpersonal skills, organizational skills, good citizenship skills and acquire goal setting drives with an opportuity to work in cooperative planning groups.
Furthermore, those students who participate in the Student Council Organization will gain a sense of responsibility as well as being able to serve as a voice for the students within the school community.
Ultimately, the Student Council Organization gives students an opportunity to use their God-given talents and gifts to provide a service to others as Jesus teaches us.
The Executive Board of the Student Council consists of a President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, Sergeant at Arms, Grades 5-8 Class Representative, Grades 3-4 Council Volunteers and Teacher Advisors.

Basketball

The St. Joseph Athletic Association is part of the GIL basketball league. Our program includes: JV Girls, JV Boys (5th and 6th grades),Varsity Girls, Varsity Boys (7th and 8th grades), JV and VarsityCheerleaders (5th and 6th grades), and the Pep Squad (4th through 8th grades).

In the 2007-2008 season, St. Joseph hosted the first annual Myron Riddick basketball tournament, named after a former coach and parent who we lost to Lou Gehrig. The tournament was a big success and will be continued next season.

Cheerleading Team

Students are given the opportunity to try-out for the cheerleader squad every year. Cheerleading is an important part of our athletic team because they encourage and support our team members in every game. Being a cheerleader not only means being cheerful and radiant but being an example of the student body with very high spirits, great motivation and pride.

Gospel Choir

Gospel Choir is open to our student body; students of any grade are encouraged to participate. Gospel Choir has been able to reinforce students' vocal talents, nurture their performance abilities and motivate their spirits. The success of our Choir has showcased its' talent in the New Jersey Performance Arts Center, Newark City Hall and the Livingston Mall. Whether the children are singing Christmas carols or to our Mayor, Corey Booker, they take pride in all the hard practice and work that they dedicate themselves to.

Praise Dancing

Praise Dancing is offered to students who are interested in dance and spiritual reflection. We acknowledge students who have interests in the performing arts and encourage them to engage in an activity that will reinforce their artistic abilities.

French Club

French classes are offered to students in grade 5. Students are taught basic language skills in order to become fluent speakers in French. Sr. Anne of Jesus from the Apostolic Sisters of St. John dedicates her time after school to provide lessons including teaching the students how to sing songs in French. This club is "magnifique"!
